Adapalene 0.1% + Retinol: Are They Compatible?

Avoid

Information from the FDA label and published sources. Not medical advice.

Why

Adapalene 0.1% and Retinol are both retinoids. Layering two retinoids doesn't double the benefit — it multiplies irritation, peeling and photosensitivity, and can break down your skin barrier. Dermatologists recommend using only one retinoid at a time.

Usage guidance

Use only one retinoid. If you're switching, fully stop one before starting the other and reintroduce slowly (2–3 nights/week). A ceramide moisturizer and daily SPF 30+ are essential.
