Ingredient compatibility
Fragrance + Hyaluronic Acid: Are They Compatible?
No label conflict foundInformation from the FDA label and published sources. Not medical advice.
Why
Hyaluronic acid is a large-molecule humectant that operates independently of fragrance compounds—it draws water into the stratum corneum through hygroscopic action without pH or oxidative sensitivity. Fragrance allergens (e.g., limonene, linalool) may trigger contact dermatitis in sensitized individuals, but this risk exists regardless of hyaluronic acid presence. No chemical interaction occurs between these ingredients.
Usage guidance
You can use fragrance and hyaluronic acid together safely from a compatibility standpoint. If you have a history of fragrance sensitivity or compromised barrier function, choose fragrance-free formulations to minimize independent irritation risk—not because of interaction, but because fragrance is a common allergen.
